Government by, of and for the people is a founding principle of the United States, and remains the best way to settle problems in a pluralistic society. True democracy and effective government depend on every citizen’s access to participation, transparency of government information, and a level playing field in campaigns and elections to ensure that candidates for public office represent the public interest, not special interests.
