High Cost of Fossil Fuels, Cont’d

Happy Earth Day!

To mark the occasion we have a sinking oil rig off the coast of Louisiana that is leaking oil into the Gulf of Mexico, following an explosion that may have cost as many as 11 lives. That follows the mining catastrophe in West Virginia that killed 29 people.

These events are more reminders of the high cost of fossil fuels – not just for our pocketbooks, but for the environment and workers as well. And they are reminders that, amid the talk of new drilling off the East Coast of the U.S. and the constant hype about “clean coal,” our environmental challenges are far from solved, and that 40 years of progress has left us with plenty of work to do.
